You promise?

Do you promise to stay forever? Do you promise to never lie to me? Do you promise to be with me in my hard times? Do you promise you’ll work with all your heart for this job?

We often come across this word. “PROMISE”. I’d like to ask you. What’s a promise? Why does this one word make us believe that everything will go our way or however we want it?

There may be a plethora of definitions for a promise. But in my opinion a promise is something that binds you together in a situation.

I wanted to ask you a question. Why do we make a promise? Do you make a promise to your brother that you’ll be his sister forever? No right? We make a promise because at the back of our minds we know there is a chance of the promise being broken. We don’t want to accept it but that is the bitter truth.

We know that nothing is going to last forever, nothing has and nothing will. Then why do we keep breaking our hearts for thing we already know is going to happen.

Humans have this tendency to feed on lies when our heart is hungry for love, support and attention. But we forget to understand that we wouldn’t drink poison when we’re thirsty. Then why our hearts?

I’ll keep my heart protected henceforth. I promise.

  1. True, but also this is universal truth that we are human beings and we are tend to have relationships with promises which is called hope for better, and if one can overcome this then he becomes eternal

  2. I appreciate the question which you have posed Shreya. It’s come from the core of your being and the same core will give you the answer in time.

Nothing beats the beauty of a silent promise. It’s in the eyes, the smile, the gesture…….and the biggest one is the one we make to ourselves. It’s a resolve which makes us strong.

However, fake promises are just that. They have no value. Glad you brought it up.

    Keep asking more questions.

  3. Not all promises get broken and the good news is that the ones that do, don’t have to stay broken. We make promises as a binding commitment. Many times we mean what we said in the moment and then life gets hard, we struggle, and we break things. We are the hardest on those closest to us. That doesn’t make the promise any less sincere. Unfortunately we’re all quite flawed and the sooner we realize that, the sooner we can find forgiveness. Regardless if you’re the one who broke the promise or the one that has to do the forgiving for someone else. We are all so deeply flawed but true love is unconditional right?
